Entry-level suggestions on : web hosting provider.

  • One indication that a website plans to be around for a while is when they have a lot of sponsors and advertisements. Sponsors help pay for the website, which means this site has a steady flow of income.
  • With shared web hosting, if someone in your shared IP address does something foolish to get banned, you will unfortunately be banned as well. You may want to consider getting a dedicated IP address to avoid this kind of thing. Beginners should not worry about this, but serious investors should look into it. A search engine will ban websites.
  • When designing a website, you should consider if the users can find everything, is it difficult to navigate. Critical data should be found in 3 clicks or less. Try not to advertise for websites that are more interesting than yours. You want to try and make users buy your products or services, not just review them.
  • Sources say that Windows hosting have slower performance than Unix. However, they are also less expensive. Hosting services like Unix do not run ASP or ASP.Net applications. A server running Windows usually has a friendlier user-interface as well as multi-language support.
  • You should also consider the provider's speed and reliability, or else you might end up taking hours to upload a website. A server with a huge downtime will mean your website is also down.

  • Shared hosting is usually financial viable, costing about $5 - $10 monthly. Unfortunately, it will not give you great performance or elevated bandwidth. Regardless of quality, these services are secure. Some services available are Bluehost or Lunarpages. If a server offers Unlimited Bandwidth or Storage, they are probably trying to scam you.
  • You can read unbiased reviews online about how much each plan will cost, any hidden fees incurred, technical support, additional features, and the server's performance. Forums are also a reliable source of information.
  • The better your host, the better your business will do. If you want an efficient website, you need to pay appropriately. You get what you pay for.
  • If your website is heavy on media, you're going to need a larger disk space. Even huge pages coded in text are not going to take up as much room as image or music files. If you're website is designed properly and uses minimal graphics, you're not going to need a lot of space. If you expect a lot of visitors, you should plan your bandwidth accordingly. You don't want users to leave because your website is out of bandwidth and offline. If you're planning a small site or a backlink site, you can probably use a smaller hosting plan that’s cheaper.
  • Your design should be customized to match your business. If you are planning a dating service, you should try to make use of some of the dating software available. Such a venture will require a lot of dedication, because there are a lot of websites to compete against. This would probably be a secondary job, on the side.
